Driver License: FAQs Related to COVID-19 Extensions

Valid Missouri driver licenses (Class A, B, C, E, F and M), nondriver licenses and noncommercial instruction permits with original expiration dates of March 1, 2020, through April 30, 2020, have been granted an automatic 60-day extension; these licenses and permits will be considered to have a valid status for driving and local document acceptance purposes.

How can I determine if a license office is open to complete my driver license, nondriver license, or instruction permit transaction(s)?

The public assistance office of the Department of Revenue is currently open to walk-in customers. The hours of operation are 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. There are also independently owned and operated license offices open to the public. Refer to the offices currently open and updates list for the latest information.

If my driver license, nondriver license or noncommercial instruction permit has an expiration date of March 1, 2020, through April 30, 2020, what is the new extended deadline to renew my license?

Valid Missouri driver licenses (Class A, B, C, E, F and M), nondriver licenses and noncommercial instruction permits with original expiration dates of March 1, 2020, through April 30, 2020, have been granted an automatic 60-day extension.

For example, a driver license with an original expiration date of March 1, 2020, will be considered valid until April 30, 2020. Similarly, a driver license with an original expiration date of April 30, 2020, will be considered valid until June 29, 2020.

If my lawful status end date is the same as the expiration date on my document, am I eligible to receive the 60-day extension?

No. The extension does not apply to document holders whose lawful status end date is the same as the expiration date on their driver license, nondriver license or instruction permit.

Does the approved extension waive the mandatory retesting requirements?

No. The extension does not waive the mandatory retesting requirement for persons who have allowed their license to expire for more than 184 days pursuant to

Does the 60-day extension apply to additional testing as part of a medical review program?

Yes. Individuals who were provided notice to complete additional testing as part of a medical review program requirement may be granted an additional 60 days to comply with such requirements.

Has an extension been granted for individuals holding a CDL or CLP with a current medical certification?

Yes. Individuals holding a CDL or CLP with a current medical certificate that has been issued for a period of 90 days or more that had an original expiration date of March 1, 2020 to May 31, 2020 were most recently granted a waiver by FMCSA to an end date of October 31, 2020. The Department will initiate a downgrade of commercial privileges for drivers who have not submitted an updated medical certificate by the mandatory extension date.

Additionally, drivers with an original medical certificate that has been issued for a period of 90 days or more, and that had an original expiration date of June 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020, will have until December 31, 2020 to submit an updated medical certificate to prevent downgrade action.
