AHMEDABAD: In preparation for the bid to host the 2036 Olympics , the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (Auda) has initiated a comprehensive 20-year development plan named Ahmedabad Development Plan 2041 .
Auda is engaging stakeholders from various sectors for insights on the bid process. Simultaneously, efforts are underway to create a new general development control regulation (GDCR) to establish a robust framework for the city's spatial development.
This week, Auda issued a tender to appoint a consultant to develop a master plan addressing the city's water supply, sewage, and stormwater drainage needs.
Auda's development plan extends beyond physical infrastructure, focusing on an eco-sensitive and sustainable approach to urban growth. The plan's key components include groundwater conservation and innovative water management strategies, such as harvesting rainwater and wastewater treatment.
The master plan will focus on areas within Auda, the designated venue for the Olympic Games. A senior Auda official said, "In a departure from its predecessor, the 2021 Development Plan, which focused heavily on public transport, the 2041 vision encompasses a broader spectrum, including promoting net-zero emissions by 2040."Auda has entrusted the preparation of the strategic master plan to Brisbane firm Populous, said top sources. The company is known for its expertise in designing sports, entertainment, and cultural venues. Surveyors from Populous have commenced work, marking boundaries in eight areas, including Motera, Koteshwar, Bhat, and the surrounding regions of Sughad, Chandkheda, Zundal, and Koba.
