Apply for reappointment as a Justice of the Peace (JP)
If you're a current Justice of the Peace (JP) in NSW, you can apply online for reappointment in the final year of your 5-year term.
If you're registered for JP Online, you'll receive an email reminder to apply for reappointment when your term is approaching expiry.
What you need
- a JP Online account
- your personal and contact details
- your proof of identity
- your JP registration number
- a passed JP Knowledge Test (which is based on the JP Handbook information)
- a description of the community-based need for your appointment, if you're applying to be a community JP
- a letter on your employer’s letterhead, if you're applying as part of an employment need
- evidence that you have legally changed your name, if applicable.
How to apply
- Select the 'Apply online' button.
- Log in, or register for your JP Online account.
- Follow the prompts to apply for reappointment.
If you're unable to apply online, contact JP appointment services.
More information
- The online application takes about 15 minutes to complete. For security reasons, your session will 'time out' after 60 minutes and you'll lose any data that you entered.
- Ensure you submit your application before midnight on the expiry date of your current term, otherwise your appointment will automatically lapse.
