The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater is committed to providing a quality educational experience for all students. The objective of the student complaint process is to ensure all official student complaints are addressed fairly and promptly. Formal complaints will be tracked by the appropriate university authority. Please review the options below to find the appropriate form:

Non-Academic

Complaints against faculty under Chapter VI of Faculty Personnel Rules »
This complaint process may be used by any individual who seeks to file a formal complaint against a faculty member for an alledged violation of University rules or policies or conduct which adversely affects the faculty members performace of their obligation to the University and could lead to discipline or dismissal.

NOTE: Students are encouraged to review the General Student Grievance process to determine if that is more applicable for addressing or resolving the dispute.

UWS Chapter 17 contains the student nonacademic misconduct policies and procedures for filing complaints and pursuing disciplinary action against respondent students. It states what types of conduct is prohibited, how to file a complaint against a student, and the procedures used to initiate disciplinary action up to and including expulsion for engaging in prohibited conduct. These procedures apply to both on and off campus conduct under certain circumstances. The process also provides educational opportunities to encourage students to evaluate their own decision-making and acquire new skills to improve their choices in the future.

Academic

These procedures should be used as an initial step to attempt to address and resolve issues, concerns, or disputes related to a students educational or academic environment (exclduing Grade Appeals), including but not limited to, unfair or inappropreate conduct or decisions made by a member of any college, department, office, administrative unit or committee of the University; a violation of a policy or rule; or to seek resolution to a specific concern or dispute. At the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater it is expected that instructors will evaluate students regularly and consistently by criteria and guidelines presented to students at the beginning of each grading period. If a student has reason to believe the grade is incorrect, the student may act on that by following the grade appeal process. The process for filing a grade appeal is the same at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and begins with an informal process, before moving to a formal process.

UW-Whitewater believes that academic honesty and integrity are fundamental to the mission of higher education and of the University of Wisconsin System. The university has a responsibility to promote academic honesty and integrity and to develop procedures to deal effectively with instances of academic dishonesty. Students are responsible for the honest completion and representation of their work, for the appropriate citation of sources, and for respect of others’ academic endeavors. Students who violate these standards are subject to disciplinary action. UWS Chapter 14 identifies procedures to be followed when a student is accused of academic misconduct.
